LAT-1: It is not clear of English's distinction of 'the cormorant' (Phalacrocorax carbo) and 'the shag' (Gulosus aristotelis) over the years (see: Íomha 'LAT-1' thíos); and furthermore, the ability to distinguish between the two species must be questioned on various levels. In dictionaries, were the questionners and the respondants referring to the same species? Were they looking at the same bird, and did they both understand that there was a distinction that is, or may have been, made?
